Helping Ms. Pope Stay Safe at Home
Ms. Pope, an older adult living alone in Dallas County, contacted 2-1-1 during a dangerous heat wave because she urgently needed an air conditioner. Living on a fixed income with no nearby family support, she had temporarily left her home to stay with a neighbor in order to remain safe from the extreme temperatures.

Although the initial program had a waiting list due to high demand, additional community referrals were provided. Through one of those partner agencies, Ms. Pope ultimately received two free window air-conditioning units installed in her home—allowing her to safely return home and continue living independently.
